In this device, the burner (2), which is equipped with an oil-conveying pump (3), is connected to a vented fuel oil tank (1) via a conveying line (4) which contains a foot valve (53). The conveying line (4) is, furthermore, connected to a chamber (7) to which there are connected an intake line (11) of a vacuum pump (12) which generates an underpressure in the chamber (7), and a pressure cell (15) of an alarm device (16). In order both when using a single-walled storage container and when using a double-walled storage container to make it possible to monitor leaks in the lines (4, 10) connecting the burner (2) to the fuel oil tank (1), without said lines having to be surrounded by an enveloping tube, the device is laid out as follows: the chamber (7) projects in its vertical extent beyond the vertically highest point (5) of the line (4) and the oil column, which corresponds to the underpressure which can be produced in the chamber (7) by the vacuum pump (12), is smaller than the vertical distance of the highest point of the chamber (7), from the highest filled level of the fuel oil tank (1). <IMAGE>
