The charging pump feeds load with variable liquid demand at constant pressure. The drive motor has constant speed, and pump is used for example for filter presses whose demand is reduced as filter chambers are filled with deposits. The pump drive power losses are kept to a min. The hydrostatic drive (26) is varied by a feed pump (30) driven by the driving motor (24). The feed pump delivery rate can be varied in relation to pressure automatically for the given rotating speed of the driving motor. A hydraulic motor (32) is provided which is fed by the feed pump and this motor drives the charging pump (12). The feed pump (30) can be a vane pump with adjustable eccentricity.
