Heat exchanger, especially a cooler where a hollow cylindrical flanged housing has a feed- and take-off connection for the medium to be cooled such as a fluid inside the housing and parallel to it is a packet of tubes into which a heat carrier medium such as a coolant can be introduced. Specifically a manually operated cleaning device is fitted within the housing (11). This cleaner has a cleaning slide (29) which can be moved along part of the inner surface (30) of the housing (11) and/or the outer face (31) of same tubes (28) and consequentially over their complete length. The cleaning device has an operating rod (32) which has a bandle (33) and is passed from one housing end into the inside (15) of the housing (11). The slide (29) is fixed to the end of the operating rod (32) inside the housing (11).
