<p>An integral (single-component), closed plastics container is intended for sterile liquid such as blood. The container is suitable for gas sterilisation and comprises a vent opening covered with a bacteria-filtering material which is permeable to gases but impermeable to liquids; in addition, a tubular projection with an internal diameter designated to retain and hold a liquid-transfer needle is mounted in the wall of the container, esp. flush, and has a thin membrane across it. Pref. the membrane has a line of location of intentional weakness, esp. in the shape of an X for piercing by the needle. Used partic. for the storage of blood plasma under sterile conditions for future use in transfusions. The container provides improve assurance of the maintenance of sterile conditions under all circumstances.</p> |
