<p>1434839 Making aerosol containers CEBAL 4 June 1973 [5 June 1972] 26464/73 Headings B3Q B3J and B3A [Also in Division B8] A rolled-edged valve-receiving opening of an aerosol can is formed by outwardly turning the trimmed edge of an upstanding can neck using a shouldered spigot (7) to produce a flat collar (5), Figs. 1 to 3 (not shown), deflecting the collar downwardly to frustoconical form using a conically-recessed punch (13) having a centering spigot (12), Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), and finally rolling the collar up in the remaining portion of the neck. The width of the collar is greater than the radius of the roll 22 and the construction is said to inhibit unrolling of the edge due to internal gas pressure. The tool for rolling the collar up in the remaining neck portion comprises a holder 15, which carries a spring- loaded centering annulus 19, and central part 16 configured to form the rolled bead enclosing the collar.</p> |
