摘要 <p>1455779 Photographic type - composing QUANTOR CORP 4 April 1974 [4 April 1973] 15026/74 Heading B6W Light from a laser source 12, Fig. 1, is projected on to a film 28 to form characters thereon by way of an acousto-optic modulation 15, a horizontal-deflecting mirror 23 and a verticaldeflecting mirror 25. In accordance with a character signal input 18, the modulator emits selected ones of a plurality of coherent light beams 17 arranged in a vertical column. Each character on the film 28, Figs. 1 and 2, is made up of segments produced within a matrix area ten segments high and seven segments wide, i.e. seven columns of ten segments. To form a character, the mirror 23 directs the light to each column in turn, and the beams in being at that time form the required segments in that column so that a signal is applied at 18 for each column of a character. After a complete line scan by the mirror 23, it is returned to its original position while exposure is inhibited, and the mirror 25 is moved one step for line-spacing. A single permanent beam 35 is directed on to the mirror 23 through a grating 40 and reflected back through another part of the grating to a photosensor 43 which controls the initiation of character signals in dependence on the exact position of the mirror. After completion of the text, an image of the form is projected by a projector 46. To produce characters having a portion extending below the matrix, a device is provided to deflect all beams downward three spaces.</p>
