PURPOSE:To obtain an orientation image from which a vein running condition is easily grasped during surgery or the like, by providing a smoothing means for smoothing an X-ray image when no image forming agent is present, and a subtracting means for carrying out subtraction between an image obtained after the smoothing and an X-ray image obtained after filling the image forming agent. CONSTITUTION:Frame memory 1 stores therein a mask image which is an X-ray image before filling an image forming agent. Meanwhile frame memory 2 stores therein a live image which is an X-ray image after filling the image forming agent. The mask image is read from the frame memory 1, and is subjected to a smoothing process by a smoothing circuit 3, and is then delivered to a subtracting circuit 4 for carrying out subtraction therebetween. Accordingly it is possible to obtain only an image which indicating a skeletal structure or a peripheral edge of a soft part tissue alone and veins alone so that the running condition of the veins with respect to the skeletal structure or the like may be easily grasped. Thereby it is possible to obtain a suitable image as an orientation image during surgery or the like.
