[Also in Division F4] A tank for liquefied gas comprises an outer wall 3 (e.g. a ship's inner hull) having a layer of heat insulation blocks 1 and brackets 16 secured thereto, the brackets 16 supporting horizontal wooden bulwarks 16 provided with spaced apart straps 20 to which are secured plates 8 welded together to form an outer casing separated by insulation blocks 14 from an inner casing constructed from welded together plates 37. The bulwarks 15 are formed from sections having abutting angled ends, Fig. 2, located at each bracket 16, one of the ends being fixed to the bracket and the other being free to expand and contract. The plates 8 are provided with inwardly directed flanges (9), Fig. 4 (not shown), and the flanges of adjacent plates are welded to one of the limbs of an L-section bracket (11) the other downwardly directed limb of which is arranged to seat in a U-shaped channel (12) secured to the insulation blocks 1. The straps 20 are provided with threaded studs extending through the plates 8 for the attachment of supports 27 having vertical pins 28 for engaging in holes provided at the ends of vertical channel members 29. The blocks of insulation 14 are held in position against the plates 8 by bolts (33), Fig. 8 (not shown), screwed into the channel members 29. U-shaped members mounted on the blocks 14 are interlocked with U-shaped members welded in position between adjacent flanges on the plates 37 of the inner casing to thereby permit relative sliding movement therebetween. The blocks 1, 14 are in the form of wood boxes filled with perlite. |
