<p>1473936 p-Diethylbenzene UOP Inc 9 Aug 1974 [10 Aug 1973] 35160/74 Heading C5E p-Diethylbenzene is separated from a mixed feed comprising benzene, ethylbenzene, diethylbenzenes and polyethylbenzenes by a process comprising : (a) separating, e.g. by fractionation, the mixture to provide (1) a low-boiling stream comprising benzene and ethylbenzene, (2) an intermediate-boiling stream comprising o-, m- and p-diethylbenzenes, and (3) a high-boiling stream comprising polyethylbenzenes; (b) separating p-diethylbenzene from (2) by selective adsorption on a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite; (c) contacting the remaining o- and misomers from (2) with at least a portion of both (1) and (3) with a transalkylation catalyst, and (d) recycling the transalkylation effluent to (a). Suitable transalkylation catalysts are Friedel- Crafts, e.g. AlCl 3 , aluminosilicates, or BF 3 - modified inorganic oxides (e.g. BF 3 -modified anhydrous alumina). The adsorbent may be types X or Y zeolites containing Ba and/or K cations.</p> |
