PURPOSE:To obtain a high contrast and to improve recording or displaying characteristic by having a dielectric layer consisting of a resin having at least >=5,000 number average mol. wt. on the surface of an image holding member. CONSTITUTION:A diffusion reflecting layer 2 and the dielectric layer 3 are laminated to one surface of a conductive base 1. Defects, such as pinholes, of the dielectric layer 3 are removed by using the resin having at least >=5,000 number average mol. wt. for the dielectric layer. As a result, the uniformity of the concn. is enhanced and the displaying characteristics are improved. In addition, the improvement in service life is resulted from the improved wear resistance and flaw resistance. An impressed voltage is eventually impressed more on the dielectric layer 3 than on the reflecting layer 2 if the electric resistance of the layer 2 is smaller than the electric resistance of the layer 3. The increase of the film thickness of the layer 2 is thus possible and the whiteness is improved. This effect is particularly remarkable when the volume sensitivity of the layer 2 is <=10<12>OMEGA.cm. The decrease in the contrast is thereby prevented. |
