摘要 1361172 Spinning yarns; feeding and opening fibres E BOBKOWICZ A J BOBKOWICZ and M M LEFEBVRE 20 Nov 1972 [6 July 1972] 53497/72 Headings DID D1F D1N and D1W Composite spun yarn is produced by forwarding a carrier strand e.g. of polypropylene ribbon, glass, polyester or nylon, under tension into a circumferential groove in a rotating roll and simultaneously therewith a polymer e.g. polyethylene, in tacky condition, feeding staple fibres into the groove, imparting a twist e.g. by means of a false-twister, to the components within the groove whilst they are pulled against the bottom of the groove, positively cooling the twisted assembly to coagulate the polymer component and linearly and continuously winding-up the resultant twisted yarn on a collecting roll. In the operation of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, a strand 5 withdrawn from bobbin 6 is forwarded by tension control rollers 7 and 8 into and through an extruder 3 which the polymer enters through inlet 4 and is extruded therefrom so as to coat strand 5 which passes into the circumferential groove in roll 1. Staple fibres e.g. of polypropylene, cotton and/or polyester or rayon, opened and/or combed from a supply 10 such as tape, web, sliver, roving or tow, by a licker-in roller in a delivery device 9, are directed by a blower 11 into the groove where they are retained by suction means within roll 1 coacting with perforations 2. The yarn components are twisted within the groove approximately at point 14 by a friction false-twisting spindle 12 so positioned in relation to the roll 1 as to ensure that the formed yarn 15 not only transmits the twist to point 14 but also holds the components firmly against the base of the groove. Yarn 15, having been cooled &c by compressed air jet 20, is withdrawn by roller 16 and wound by device 17 onto a collecting roll 18. The apparatus shown in Fig. 2 embodies a combined licker-in and consolidating grooved roll 21 onto the surface of which the fibre supply 10 from one or more sources is directly fed by device 19. Needles 22, mounted on the roll in a converging circumferential helical path 24 on one or both sides of a groove 23, continuously comb and guide the staple fibres towards the groove into which they are finally drawn by air suction and retained by a grooved pressure and tensioning roll 26. Staggered blades 27 cut fibre 10 if it is introduced as continuous filament material. The falsetwister may be an off-centre crank or a crosspin type spindle. Roll 1 or 21 may comprise more than one groove whereby a corresponding number of spun yarns may be produced.
