Printing high density information using a laser beam - scanning a matrix horizontally in synchronism with a line scanned original e.g. for 'video film'

High density information is printed on a print carrier by modulating a beam of coherent light in a first cell with a signal which represents the information to be printed and focussing the light beam in a deflection cell for the line-type scanning of the print carrier. Advantageously, the modulation signal is an electro-optical signal, obtd. by scanning an original, the line-type scanning of the print carrier being synchronised with the scanning of the original. The device permits the reproduction high density information on photographically recorded substrates or printing substrates in large numbers of prints at low unit cost. The process simplifies the reproduction of 'image plates' and 'video films', e.g. for recording of complete television programmes, and can also be used for storage of information for computers etc.
