Polyhydroxylated surfactants of formula (I) are new. HO- C2H3(CH2OH)O n C2H3(CH2ZR)O m C2H3(CH2OHO nH (where R is 4-18C linear alkyl; Z is NR', circled positiveNHR' V circled negative, R' and R2 are Me, Et or CH2CH2OH; X- is a Cl or Br ion; Y - is an anion, pref. chloride, bromide, iodide, methosulphate, mesylate or tosylate; HR'N+-V - and R'+NOH, are salts of amines and amine oxides pref. chloride, bromide, sulphate, phosphate, acetate, lactate, tartrate, oxalate or succinate; a is 0 or 1; represents the isomers m is a whole or decimal number from 2-10;n is a whole or decimal number from 2 to 25; n' O or a whole or decimal number from 2 to 25; n +n' is a number from 2 to 25). (I) are surfactants of high surface activity and have good solubility in water, are chemically stable and nonirritant to mucous membranes.
