A device for preventing molten metal from entering a vacuum pipe on a pressure die casting machine, where the two mating die halves form an air extn. channel, has a cooling channel which has a constant cross-sectional area but the latter part changes to form a wide, thin slot in which the metal solidifies before reaching the vacuum pipe. In the pref. device, the cooling channel is formed by two mating extensions to the die halves, where each extension is on the top of the die havles; and water cooling channels are provided in each extension to ensure solidification of the molten metal. The cooling channel is followed by a porous metal insert, made e.g. of sintered metal, as a final safety device for trapping molten metal.
|
