Circular knitting machine has >=1 adjustable cam per system, the cam being provided with a rounded off edge at the lower end of its knock-off edge. The rounded edge co-operates with an arcuate edge of a transfer cam arranged for movement transversely of the cam setting device. Edge co-operates with the butts of the needles or their sinkers. Needles or sinkers are guided in a break free manner along the endless cam path without special needle or sinker construction.
