The composite plastics and metal hinge box is of the type which is wedged into a socket in a cupboard door, and the construction facilitates the removal of the metal cup. the plastic (14) is built round the cup (12). A screw (16) and mechanical interlock provide the connection between the metal (12) and the plastic (14). The cup (12) may be removed by first withdrawing the screw (16) and then twisting the cup. The plastic surround (14) has saw-tooth serrations (39) which grip the sides of the door socket and may comprise two diametrically opposed blocks (38) of circular segment plan-form. A triangular tie (42) unites the blocks (38) at one end and a 'U' form overhead flange (44) with a built-on offset screw (16) plug (46) unites the other end. The cup (12) has axle holes (12, 24) a crank flap (28) which locates the tie (42) and a flange (30) (36) which covers the flange (44) of the plastics element (14).
