<p>A secondary feed box for the manipulation of slurries with a high concentration of solid matter, is arranged transversely above a Fourdrinier machine for the production of flat materials. It has a piping manifold for distributing the slurry into a first chamber with a flow guide plate beneath which the slurry passes originally. In the first chamber there is also a perforated cylinder into and through which the slurry flows, being thoroughly mixed and distributed uniformly across the width of the chamber. The slurry overflows from the first into a second chamber which also has a flow guide plate. The bottom edge of this plate is designed correspondingly to the hydraulic flow, so that as the slurry flows under it any turbulence is damped down and the flow is guided through to a second overflow. The overflow follows a ramp a short distance from which there is a plate forming with the front edge of the plate, a feed slot. The edge of the front plate is positioned from 0 to 75 mm below the edge of the ramp and the slurry is directed downwards on to the base material carried by a permeable belt. The surfaces of the first and second overflows are parallel to the carrier belt and the form of the inner lower walls of the first and second chambers corresponds to the hydraulic form of the flowing slurry. The guide plate in the second chamber and the feed plate for the ramp are adjustable horizontally and vertically. The secondary feed box is partic. applicable to the handling of high density slurry for mfg. mineral fibre boards, and esp. to the application on a low density mineral backing of a dense surface layer.</p> |
