Flameproofing mixt. contains halobenzyl ethers of formula (I) (where R is 2,4,6-tribromophenoxy or gp. (II); A is Me, Cl or Br; x is integer 1-4 or O; y is integer 1-4 or 0 and x+y = 4). Pref. mixts. contain 2-98 (10-90)wt.% halobenzyl ether (II) of tetrabromobisphenol-A and 98-2 (90-10) wt.% halobenzyl ether (III) of 2,4,6-tribromophenol. Another pref. mixt. contains 75-99.9 wt.% (I) and halobenzyl ethers of brominated and non-brominated phenols. (I) are used for flameproofing polyolefins esp polypropylene, polyethylene and polypropylene mixts. and copolymers of ethylene and propylene. (I) are miscible with polyolefins. Good flameproofing activity is already achieved with small concns. of (I). (II) and (III) act synergetically.
