A container for sodium chloride to be used for the regeneration of the ion exchanger in water softening attachments to dishwashers and washing machines has at the bottom a channel which is sepd. from the alt receptacle by a partition. A slot in the latter allows fine-grained salt to drop into the channel so that fresh water, entering through a pipe can pass as brine through a pipe to the ion exchanger. The concn. of the brine discharged is independent of the granularity of the salt.
