The simple display is for a cassette tape deck, or for a remote spool tape deck which displays conveniently the direction and speed of any tape movement taking place, and which consists of a single row of typically four lights driven sequentially by a shift register to indicate conveniently the required parameters. The display consists of four LED's in a row (8) driven individually by the stages of a TTL JK flip flop based shift register. The shift register is clocked by a selectable frequency clock generator, typically at 4 Hz or 14 Hz, and is arranged logically so that a band of lights appear to move from left to right or vice versa at one of two speeds, depending on the state of the tape deck.
