The hydraulically adjusted tappet for OHC IC engines is cylindrical, closed to form an oil reservoir concentric with the pressure cylinder containing the piston spring loaded to move in response to changes in clearance between cam back and valve stem end. Resulting cylinder vol. increase is taken up by oil from the reservoir, via ports linked by an annular groove and a non-return valve; decrease by oil returning to the groove through a restricted leak away. The reservoir, exceeding the cylinder in capacity, is replenished from the main lubricating system via ports linked by an annular groove in the tappet guide. Reservoir entry and exit ports are displaced, angularly and/or axially.
|
