Method for controlling the flying height of a magnetic head includes the following steps: (a) setting the control tracks on the outer side of a zero track and on the inner side of a final track; (b) detecting the signal of a control track with a magnetic head; (c) controlling the flying height of a magnetic head with microprocessor until the signal value is equal to the reference value; (d) storing the control signal value equal to a reference value in the register A, B; and (e) controlling the flying height of the magnetic head with the value of the stored control signal.
