A single-handed mixing valve has an operating member arranged for movement with two degrees of freedom. The first movement is used to pre-select whether the mixing ratio or the flow volume are to be varied. The other or operating movement is used to perform the variation. The selector movement may be a linear movement while the operating movement is a rotary movement about an axis extending in the direction of the linear movement. The operating member may be a slidable axial knob (1) between positions in which a disc (2) secured to the knob engages coupling elements (16, 17) respectively of a mixing valve and a throttle valve.
