The thermal piston engine using volume variation between water, ice as energy source has several elastic closed chambers (16, 16') containing coils (17, 17') connected to a conventional gas compressor circuit. Electromagnetically controlled valves direct hot/cold gas alternately into the coils melting/freezing water filling the rest of the chambers, causing volume change. The chambers are mounted in a rigid block (5) so that liquid surrounding them converts this volume change into movement of a first piston (6) in a stepped double piston and cylinder system (6, 8, 9, 11). The last piston (11) in the system drives a crankshaft, conventionally. Balance pipes (7) connect the idler cylinders; relief valves (3) prevent overpressure.
