The plain bearing for heavy machine shafts is used in turbogenerator sets. The bearing elements rest on a bearing stand with spherical contact surface. The bearing elements are self adjusting in operation. A bearing element (4) has a spherical outside surface (7) and rests in the matching spherical seat (9) of the bearing block (8) which has support pockets (11, 12) charged with oil at high pressure. The spherical bearing element (4) is prevented from rotation in the circumferential direction by a radial pin (15) provided with a ball bearing (16) at its outside end.
