1497515 Prevention of polymer build-up SOLVAY ET CIE 6 Aug 1976 [18 Aug 1975] 32904/76 Heading C3P Polymer build-up on reactors during the aqueous dispersion polymerization of alpha, beta ethylenic monomers containing halogen, is prevented by carrying out the polymerization in the presence of a water-soluble metal salt which disassociates to give bromide or iodide ions. Preferred compounds are the bromides and iodides of Na, K, Li, Ca and Mg. The metal bromide or iodide may be added to the polymerization medium, and/or the reactor may be pre-purged with an aqueous solution of the salt. Examples describe the polymerization of vinyl chloride. |
