The rotary system engine with oscillating pistons comprises a rotor (54) and concentric, close-fitting casing (10), both cylindrical but with an equal number of radial recesses (24, 70). The casing recesses are shaped to fit and house broadly triangular-section pistons (26), providing sealing (36) and pivoting (30) facilities at the apex and a surface (28) for the curved base (34) to seal against and slide over. Levers (100) are actuated by an external timing gear from the rotor shaft (44) to cyclically push the pistons against the rotor recess walls. A clearance space remains, into which the timing gear actuated rotary valves (72, 74) admit steam. Resulting rotor rotation brings the recesses into communication with exhaust ports (22) to push the pistons back.
|
