<p>Parent patent described an installation for dewatering paper slurry consisting of a number of suction boxes with their long sides arranged parallel to each other, on the perforated horizontal plates of which, the felt with the slurry runs; there being at one end of the box suction connections to which a vacuum line can be attached. When a sieve plate shows signs of wear, the box is turned through 180 degrees and the friction of the felt redresses the plate automatically. In this addn., suction boxes are used both end faces of which have in the bottom zone on the outside of the box, easily removed tube flanges, the stubs of which have external threads. At one side the pipe connection is sealed by a cap and at the other a conventional claw coupling for the attachment of the suction pipe is provided. At the ends of each suction box under the sieve plate an adjustable plunger is fitted by which the sieve plate perforations at the ends of the horizontal plates can be blanked off. The holes at the ends, within range of the blanking plunger, are of small dia., whilst between these two zones of small holes, the sieve plate perforations are in the form of slots. A choke valve to adjust the degree of vacuum and a pressure gauge are fitted to each suction box. When it is seen that the felt is not making a seal on the sieve plate due to wear on the plate, the box can be turned through 180 degrees in the simplest and quickest possible manner. The plungers make it possible to produce paper webs of different thicknesses with the same boxes.</p> |
