1500944 Sizing tubular extrudates MILANI RESINE SpA 21 March 1975 [22 March 1974] 11890/75 Heading B5A A tubular extrudate 3 is cooled in passing through a horizontal sizing die passage 2 against which it is urged and sized by vacuum applied through perforations 15, and the admission of air between the extrudate 3 and the passage 2 which would arise from sagging of the extrudate, is reduced by a template means 17 at the inlet to the passage 2 which, at least at the upper part of the inlet, reduces the size of the inlet and effects contact with the extrudate, the extent of vertical reduction of the inlet being greater at the upper part than any reduction at the lower part of the inlet. In the Fig. 1 embodiment, cooling is effected by water circulating through chambers 5, 7, and the extrudate 3 and sizing passage are circular, and the template means 17 comprises a ring which is eccentrically bolted to the die to effect the greater reduction at the upper part, and which has a radiused edge 18 contacting the extrudate 3. In the Fig. 4 embodiment, the extrudate and sizing die passage are rectangular, and the template means comprises upper and lower adjustably mounted plates 20, 21, the upper plate 20 being convexly curved to the upper side of the extrudate across its width and the lower plate 21 defining a straight edge. |
