Propagation in the fibres and waveguide is by internal reflection, and the fibres should make an angle of incidence with the surface 12' greater than the critical angle of the material 13. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) in which acoustic wave generators (36) are located on the waveguide 13, thin film lenses (35) are incorporated in the material 13 to focus or collimate light propagating therein. |
