1501259 Cutter-bar type harvesting platform DEERE & CO 12 Nov 1975 [13 Nov 1974] 46741/75 Heading A1F A harvesting platform for a mobile harvester has a flexible cutter bar 40 capable of following contoured ground which is attached to a frame of the platform by a plurality of transversely spaced parallel-type linkages 56 allowing up and down movement of the cutter bar and a driye mechanism 50 for reciprocating a knife 46 of the cutter bar is mounted on one end of the cutter bar so that it can move up and down therewith. The drive mechanism 50, of a conventional wobble type, is driven by a belt drive 100 which includes an idler mechanism 108 which provides the proper belt tension irrespective of the position of the cutter bar 40. Each support linkage 56 comprises two links 60 and 74. The link 74 is pivotally attached at one end 76 to a channel shaped support 58, the support 58 being open downwardly and rigidly fixed to the underside of the feed table floor 30, and pivotally attached at the other end 78 to a bracket 72 carried on a skid supporting the cutter bar 40. The link 60 is pivotally attached at one end 70 to the bracket 72 and slides within the support 58 at the other end. Z shaped tabs 62 projecting rearwardly from each side of the other end of the link 60 keep the link 60 within the support 58 and also act as stops to limit the downward movement of the links and hence the cutter bar 40. In the uppermost position the links sit within the support 58. An alternative pivot point 79 for the link 74 allows the cutter bar to be positioned further forwards relative to the feed table. A spring 80, or contiguous springs, of sheet form acts to bridge the gap between the cutter bar and the feed table floor and also to counterbalance part of the weight of the cutter bar.
