1501356 Percarboxylic acid BAYER AG and DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBERSCHEIDEANSTALT 28 April 1976 [30 April 1975] 17176/76 Heading C2C A continuous process for the preparation of an organic solution of a percarboxylic acid comprises reacting the corresponding carboxylic acid with an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of sulphuric acid; extracting with a water-immiscible organic solvent; concentrating the aqueous raffinate by distillation with removal of water; returning the reconcentrated raffinate to the reaction and replenishing with a mixture of aqueous hydrogen peroxide and sulphuric acid. Lists of suitable acids are given and examples describe the reaction of propionic acid with an aqueous solution containing 25-35% H 2 O 2 and 25- 40% sulphuric acid, followed by extraction with benzene and the raffinate is combined with H 2 O 2 and distilled, then recirculated with sulphuric acid and hydrogen peroxide added. |
