Polymerisable vinyl cpds. e.g. (meth)aerolein, (meth) acrylic acid, hydroxyethyl (meth)acrylate and glycidyl (meth)acrylate are distilled in the presence of a polymerisn. inhibitor, using a distilln. column with perforated plates and without an overflow tube, the inner wall of the column which is heated by circulating a heating medium through a jacket placed around the outer wall of the column is held at a temp. sufficient to prevent condensn. of the vapour, in order to effect distilln. of the vinyl cpd. without polymer formation.
