PROCESS FOR RECOVERING RHENIUM VALUES

The process consists of adding particles of a metal which sufficiently electropositive to ppte. all the Re from the soln. followed by sepn. of the ppte. and recovery of the Re. Either a soluble sulphide, or particles of a collector-metal which is more electro-negative than Re, are pref. present during the reaction. The presence of a sulphide or a collector metal give very high yield even from dil. solns. contg. only 0.000033 g/l Re. The copper can be either in the soln. or present as powder. The process is esp. applicable to the winning of Re at copper mines where the acid-leaching of wastes results in solns. contg. e.g. 0.00001 g Re and 1 g Cu per litre. Copper and iron powders can be used or a soluble sulphide, Na2S or H2S with iron or zinc.
