Appts. and process for laminating sheet of film on to one or both faces of a support sheet where the sheet and/or cover is thermoplastic, where the necessary heat and pressure is applied by hot pressurised fluid flowing behind thin metal plates which bear against the faces of the laminates. Suitable for applying transparent protective cover or printed patterns to core coards for making e.g. credit cards or display cards etc. Use of thin pressure plates and/or separate tools for heating and cooling the laminates increases heat transfer efficiency, reduces the quantities of heat involved in swinging tempes between hot and chilled laminating platens. Compared with use of a single press with solid platen faces for heating and cooling the laminate, credit card lamination cycle times may be reduced from 18 minutes -20 seconds.
