A spring strut shock absorber for a motor vehicle, especially a private car, has a piston cylinder assembly with the cylinder connected to the wheel bearing housing and the piston rod is connected by means of an elastic support to the vehicle structure. The piston rod is surrounded by a helical coil spring which is supported at its upper end in a cup (9) attached to the piston rod. - A hemi-spherical rubber metal element (14) is fitted inside the cup (9) and is clamped against the floor of the cup by a disc (15) which is secured to the upper end of the piston rod by a nut (26). The rubber-metal element (14) has an integrally formed flange (18) by which it is fastened to the vehicle structure.
