<p>The arrangement for underwater welding comprises a chamber (2) capable of being fitted around the structure or pipe (7, 9) to be welded. In use, water is displaced from part of the chamber and a gas-filled space thus formed above the water level. Fume extractors are provided, having a gas inlet (6) and comprising a filter (14), a pump or extractor fan (30), and an outlet returning the filtered gas to the chamber. The filter may have stacked horizontal filter elements and is pref. arranged upstream of the fan. The filter container (12) may have a valve-controlled (24) water drain, and the chamber has an open bottom.</p> |
