Dehydrogenation of 5-20 C paraffin hydrocarbons to the corresp. olefins takes place by contacting the paraffins with a catalyst contg. an active Al2O3 support, 0.2-1wt. % applied Pt, followed by 0.2-2wt. % applied alkali metal, and, in addn., 0.2-1wt. % Ga, In and/or Tl. Contact takes place in H2, at 440-550 degrees C under press. from 1 atmos. to 5 atmos. over-press. Mol. ratio H2/paraffins is 1:1 to 15:1. Vol. velocity of charged initial hydrocarbons is 1-50 hr.-1, w.r.t. liquid raw material. Olefins obtd. are useful raw materials for synthetic of rubber, detergents and surfactants. The added Ga, In and/or Tl act as promoters. Yield of olefins is increased e.g. by 10% at higher press. and 1.5-2x at atmos. press. Process selectivity to olefins reaches 93% at conversion 16-16.5%. |
