Welded steel joint for precast concrete panels - has panel interlock supplemented by welded integral steel fittings projecting from building panels

The welded site-connection is for use between precast concrete building components, joins steel fittings which are embedded in the conjunctive concrete components, and avoids the time lost in waiting for in situ mortar connections to mature. A hammer head projection (6) from the edges of the floor slab is formed by opposed identical groves (4, 5) in the invert (16) and soffit (23) faces of the floor slab, and fits in a reciprocal section channel (7) in the internal wall face. The channel (7) centres on the panel bed-joint (9) and comprises half-channels formed in the abutting internal corners of the wall panels (2,3). The steel connectors take the form of angle irons (10-18) set flush or slightly recessed in the wall panels (2,3) and plates set in the roots of the hammer head.
