The gravity operated opening system for a door based on the locking arrangement of the main patent for emergency use has a vertical operating bar (4) on the inside of the door (1) and a handle (21) on the outside. The bar has a slot (4e) at one edge engaged by an extension (24a) which can be moved back to a release position. The extension projects from a plate (24) which is in turn engaged by the sliding latch (27a) of the door lock (27). This is moved into an inoperative position by the handle.
