Data read=out facility for energy consumption meters - has internally stored data displayed via LEDs and optically interrogated

The data read-out facility for computer storage of energy consumption meters is based on an optical display comprising l.e.d.s etc. which represent the data stored in the meter. An internal microcomputer is used as a store. An optical reader head provides a start command signal which causes the stored data to be transferred from the meter register to its display window. If the display has only one optical device, the data is read out in 1-bit serial form. The meter is fitted with a number of photo-detectors and light-guides connected to its store so that it may be programmed from outside by optical means. In this way, different types of data may be read out when it is next interrogated by the reader head.
