<p>A machine for bending over the outer sleeve (18) of a steering or track rod ball joint has the spindle (40) of the joint supported at its tapered part (39) in a collar (29) housed between blocks (21, 22, 35) mounted on the machine table. Above them rotates a head (11) with wheels (13) with sloping edges (15, 16) which are forced onto the rim (17) of the sleeve to bend it over. This traps a cover plate (44), a spring (43), and a lower plate (42) over the ball (41) fitting in the spherical sealing on top of the spindle. The base of the sleeve (18) is supported inside a recess (34) in the top of the upper block (35) through which the spindle passes. Another design of ball joint has a cup shaped spring trapped between a ball end of the spindle and the outer sleeve.</p> |
