Gas-tight coated aromatic polyamide textile fabrics - with a coating of polyester-urea!, laminated to a film e.g. of PTFE or PVC, for inflatable craft, balloons, etc.

Gas-tight heat resistant textile material consists of an aramide built of aromatic ring cpds. or a polyester carrier, coated on at least one side with a polyester-urea coating compsn. and laminated to >=1 film. The textile carrier is pref. of poly-meta-phenylenediamine-iso-phthalamide or poly-para-phenylenediamineterephthalamide, the coating is of polyester-urea, and the laminated film is of e.g. polyvinylidene fluoride, polyethylene terephthalate, fluoroethylenepropylene, PTFE, or PVC. The film may be transparent or pigmented, and the fabric may be metallised e.g. with al by vacuum metallisation or by plating, to avoid the build up of static charges. The fabrics are strong, lightweight and gas-tight, and can be fabricated by welding in place of the dual sewing or adhesive bonding. The prods. have excellent physical properties, resistance to tearing, chemical resistance and resistance to temp. variations e.g. from -50 to +50 degrees C. The coated fabrics are useful e.g. for the prodn. of inflatable boats, balloons and airships.
