1496876 Mines FRITZ WERNER INDUSTRIE AUSRUSTUNGEN GmbH 4 Aug 1970 37687/70 Heading F3A An underwater ground mine, particularly for use in rivers, comprises a disc-shaped explosive charge 2 and an igniter 3 in the form of a separate closed unit with a tension device for securing same to the charge 2 and including a propagation charge 18 resting against a thin part 19 of the wall of the igniter casing, the thin part 19 abutting the explosive charge 2. The igniter 3 has laterally projecting arms 4, 5 forming a semi-circle matched to the radius of the charge 2 which is held firmly against the igniter 3 by a tension band 6. One end of the band 6 is hinged to arm 4 and the band is drawn tight by means of a turnbuckle 8 on arm 5. In the igniter 3 is a sensor 10, e.g. an ultrasonic detector, with a directional characteristic effective towards both sides at right angles to the median plane of the charge 2. An expanding grapnel 11 with a mooring line 13 is housed in a cylindrical chamber 12 of the igniter 3, the grapnel 11 being removed and its claws expanding under spring action before the mine is laid. On being laid, the mine lies flat and cannot be detected by sonar. The sensor 10 can be designed as a float which, with the mine lying flat, will detach from it and remain connected to it only by a lead. |
