Plug for closing slag gutter on blast furnace - where row of shutter plates mate with gutter profile

Plug where at least two plates, e.g. three, with a profile matching the cross-section of the gutter, are inserted. The plates are spaced in a row and possess some transverse play in the gutter. The pref. device uses one plate mounted on a swivel carrier and fitted with two hook-shaped brackets located in oversize slots in the other two plates to provide the transverse play. A lever mounted on the same pivot as the carrier is fitted with a ratchet hook for lowering the row of plates into the gutter. The plates are pref. made of steel with high thermal conductivity and a gap of 40-100 mm is used between the plates. Used to stop the flow of molten slag in a gutter while changing a slag ladle on a blast furnace. The plug assumes the cross-section of the gutter, even when the latter is worn, so the plug is very easy to make.
