PREPARATION OF POLYALKYLENE POLYAMINES

1500220 Polyalkylene polyamines TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 10 May 1976 [2 June 1975] 19066/76 Heading C2C Polyalkylene polyamines are made by reacting an aliphatic di- or polyamine with an aliphatic amino-alcohol at a temperature of 250- 350‹ C. and under a pressure sufficient to maintain the mixture in liquid phase, the reaction being effected in the presence of a phosphoruscontaining compound as catalyst. Specified catalysts are potassium and sodium dihydrogen phosphate, ferric phosphate, aluminium phosphate, boron phosphate, organic phosphates and phosphites, phosphonic and phosphinic acids and their esters, phosphoric and phosphorous acids and their anhydrides, thio-analogues of the above, phosphonic acid on silica, a mixture of phosphorous or phosphoric acid and boric acid, boron phosphate on diatomaceous earth, silicon carbide or silica, and a mixture of boron phosphate and aluminium phosphate. The reaction may be effected continuously over a fixed bed catalyst.
