1500196 Linkwork MONARCH MARKING SYSTEMS Inc 28 Jan 1975 [4 March 1974] 3720/75 Heading F2K [Also in Division B4] Apparatus for printing and cutting sheets from a web W comprises a cutting mechanism 11 driven, via a connecting rod 31, by a drive means 22, 23, 27, including a drive pin 28, and a selective drive connection 36 between the drive pin and the connecting rod settable in either one position in which the drive pin drives the connecting rod to operate the cutting mechanism or, in another position, in which the drive pin is ineffective to drive the connecting rod. The drive connection 36 comprises a block 37 screwed to the connecting rod 31, a member 42 being pivotally connected to the block and provided with a portion 45 adapted to enter into an enlarged end of a slot 60 formed in the rod; the portion 45 is formed with a drive face 451 for co-operation with the drive pin 28. The drive pin is mounted on a plate 27 which is secured to a shaft 24 rotated by a motor M via a shaft 16 and gears 22, 23; the shaft 16 also drives printing cylinders 12, 13 via gears 18, 19, 21. The connecting rod is connected to a lever 65 secured to a shaft 66 which via levers 69, 70 and links 71, 72 actuates a knife 76. In operation, with the member 45 in the closed position shown in Fig. 1, and upon rotation of the plate 27, the pin engages the drive face 451 and thereby causes the connecting rod 31, together with the knife 76, to move downwardly so that the latter co-operates with a fixed blade 87 to sever the web W. When the web is not required to be cut, the member 42 is pivoted to the open position PL, Fig. 3, so that the drive pin can then move down freely in the slot 60 without moving the rod 31. The member 42 is provided with finger grips 421 and is held in the open and closed positions by a spring-loaded detent ball 55, 57.
