1500047 Monocarboxylated cyclododecatriene derivatives TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 14 March 1975 [22 April 1974] 10662/75 Heading C2C Monoalkyl cyclododecadiene carboxylate esters are prepared from 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene by contacting each mole of 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene present with from 0À005 to 0À02 molar equivalents of a homogeneous, ligand-stabilized, platinum (II) or palladium (II) halide-Group IVb metal halide complex catalyst selected from and at least one molar equivalent of an alkanol or phenol under a carbon monoxide pressure of 2000 to 4000 p.s.i.g., heating the pressurized mixture to 60‹ to 90‹ C. until substantial monocarboxylation of the triene occurs and the alkyl cyclododecadiene carboxylate is formed, and removing the carbon monoxide from the system. The monoalkyl cyclododecadiene carboxylate produced by the above process may be hydrogenated by contacting each molar equivalent of the ester with from 0À005 to 0À02 molar equivalents of a homogeneous, ligand-stabilized, platinum (II)-Group IVb metal halide complex catalyst selected from in an oxygen-free inert solvent under hydrogen pressure, and heating the pressurized reaction mixture to 20‹ to 120‹ C. The monoalkyl radical in the above esters is preferably methanol, ethanol, n-propanol or isopropanol. |
