发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain display operation which is fast in response speed and high in contrast ratio by arranging a driving voltage on a voltage side which is higher than a threshold voltage. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display device has substrates 6 and 7 having a couple of electrodes which are arranged opposite each other, a liquid crystal cell 1 having nematic liquid crystal 9 sandwiched between the substrates 6 and 7, and a couple of polarizing plates 2 and 3 which are arranged across the liquid crystal cell 11 so that the twist angle of the nematic liquid crystal in the liquid crystal cell 1 is >=180 deg.. Phase plates 4 and 5 are arranged between the liquid crystal cell 1 and incident-light side polarizing plate 2, and the liquid crystal cell 1 and projection-light side polarizing plate 3 and the product nd of the optical anisotropy n of the nematic liquid crystal 9 and a cell gap (d) is >=1mum, the difference between the nd and the nd value of the phase plates is >=0.2mum, and n of the nematic liquid crystal is >=0.2. Then an applied voltage at the time of nonselection is set 1.05-1.3 times as high as the threshold voltage. Consequently, the fast response speed and high contrast ratio are obtained and a display mouse is usable.
