Fluidising bitumen with rubber pyrolysis oil - obtd. from waste tyre material and equiv. to coal tar oil

Bitumes are fluidised by addn. of 5-50 wt. % of a liquid fraction obtd. from tyres. The tyres are pyrolysed at 350-800 degrees C. for >=2 hrs.; the liquid effluent is sepd. into an aq. phase and an organic phase, and the organic phase is distilled. The fraction distilling at 130-450 degrees C. (150-400 degrees C.) under atmos. pressure is the liquid fraction incorporated in the bitumen. Pyrolysis is pref. at 400-750 degrees C. The 2-phase liquid effluent may be sepd. by decantation. The fraction distilling at 170-320 degrees C. is esp. used. The amt. of the liquid added to the bitumen is esp. 10-30 wt. %. The liquefying effect of the tyre pyrolysis liquid is at least equiv. to that of coal tar oil.
